Cognitive Distraction Driving Study- Training
Overview
Seeing Machines exists to get people home safely by developing and commercialising driver monitoring system technology and products applying eye and face tracking technologies. The purpose of this data collection is to acquire image/video/audio/physiological response data and associated metadata to support the development of a distraction-events detection feature. The collected data will also be used to continually improve related Seeing Machines occupant monitoring technology and products.
In-vehicle detection study:
This study requires one participant aged 18 and over. The participant must have a full Australian driver’s license. The study involves driving in front of cameras located in a Tesla Model Y. The studies will be conducted under the following conditions:
Instrumented Vehicle
Naturalistic/Guided Driving
Driving while performing a cognitive task
Participant will occupy driver seat of a test vehicle equipped with cameras and data capture devices and drive the vehicle with the data collector. In this data collection, Multiple videos (including audio recordings) will be recorded of the participant’s face during the study, where they will be requested to act out prescribed behaviours as naturally as possible. The data collector will be in the test vehicle during the entirety of the data collection session to help instruct you.

Session Recording
It is estimated that approximately 6 hours will be required to conduct this project per participant. Participants are asked to arrive at the Seeing Machines office at 80 Mildura St, Fyshwick at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment time.
Once the study commences, participants will engage in approximately 1 hour of familiarisation tasks including driving the vehicle, performing cognitive tasks while stationary, practising driving and performing cognitive tasks at the same time, and responding to short pen and paper questionnaires while stationary.
Once comfortable with the protocol, the first 2 hours block will commence which predominantly consists of naturalistic highway driving with an occasional cognitive task, before stopping for a roughly 30-45 minutes rest break. Participants will then repeat the 2 hours driving block in reverse, ending at the Seeing Machines office.
Note: please feel free to bring a water bottle or anything that you need for this driving study.
Overall Duration
The data collection process is expected to last approximately 6 hours in total.

Payment
Each participant will receive a $400 eGift card for completing the data collection.
Participant Requirements
• Age (required): Adults aged 18 to 65 are eligible to participate
• Australia Full Driver’s license required.
Notes
- You need to arrange your own transport to and from the data collection.
- Applicants should remain attentive to notifications regarding their booking from Pike13. In the event that we need to modify or cancel your booking due to any technical reasons, we will notify you as soon as we can, and may contact you via the email address and/or contact number that you have listed in your Pike13 account.
- To ensure we capture sufficient diversity in our participants across sex, age, height, ethnicity etc., we may consider demographic requirements in our participant selection process. Your online booking is an important initial step, but we may need to make some cancellations to ensure that our diversity requirements are met (i.e. if we have an oversupply of some requirements and not enough of others). If this occurs, we will notify you as soon as we can. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter as we strive to ensure the best possible experience for all participants.
