Driver Engagement Level Data Collection
Overview
Seeing Machines exists to get people home safely by developing and commercialising driver monitoring system technology and products applying eye and face tracking technologies. Data collection captures video, audio and subject metadata (i.e., eye features, age, height, ethnicity etc) to support the development and improvement of our technologies and products. We use real human subjects to train our algorithms and develop the most precise machine-learned solution.
In-Vehicle study:
As the participant, you will sit in a Ute equipped with cameras and data capture devices. You will complete two data collection sessions on the same day. Prior to the sessions, we will run an orientation to explain the data collection process, ensure you are comfortable using the equipment and understand the protocol. Please find more detailed information about each session below:
Orientation
· Duration: 10 - 15 min.
· We complete necessary administration and collect relevant metadata.
· Introduce you to the Ute and give you some guidance about the protocol.
Session 1 (Stationary)
· Duration: 1-1.5 hour/s.
· The vehicle will be stationary, and you will be asked to look on the road for few seconds and then look at different Driver Attention State (DAS) regions for a few seconds as per instruction. For example, you will be asked to look at the mirror, use a mobile phone or look at the back seat.
· The Ute is automatic transmission – anyone with a regular class C drivers’ licence will be able to drive this vehicle.
Session 2 (Moving Vehicle)
· Duration: 30-40 mins drive.
· You will perform a naturalistic drive.
· You will interact / fixate naturally with the DAS region as you could during normal driving.
Duration
The data collection process is expected to take approximately 2 hours.
Location

Notes
1) You must arrange your own transport to and from each data collection session.
2) Applicants should remain
attentive to notifications regarding their booking from Pike13. In the event
that we need to modify or cancel your booking due to any technical reasons, we
will notify you as soon as we can, and may contact you via the email address
and/or contact number that you have listed in your Pike13 account.
3) To ensure we capture sufficient diversity in our participants across sex, age, height, ethnicity etc., we may consider demographic requirements in our participant selection process. Your online booking is an important initial step, but we may need to make some cancellations to ensure that our diversity requirements are met (i.e. if we have an oversupply of some requirements and not enough of others). If this occurs, we will notify you as soon as we can. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter as we strive to ensure the best possible experience for all participants.
